SUMMARY:Dutchies on the bikes in Brisbane (two routes!)
DESCRIPTION:About This Event\nFollowing last year’s success we are again organising this event\, we expect more people and we again would like to see a range of different bikes to participate in the leisure tour along the river.  There will be prizes for best dressed person and best dressed bike (both for the adults and the children). \nWhile organised by the Dutchies\, the tour is of course open for all recreational bike riders in Brisbane and beyond. \nThis year\, we are planning two routes. One route goes around the river for about 13kms from Kangaroo Pt across the Go Between Bridge via the Botanic Garden back to Kangaroo Pt.  There are a few hills in this route. We are also organising a separate smaller route of approx. 3km at Kangaroo Point (no hills) with activities for small children. The larger route will have a max capacity of 150 people\, whereas the fun and puzzle route with games for children max 50 people. \nWe all start and end at the same spot at the end of Main Street at Captain Burke Park in Kangaroo Point where street parking is available. Participants will be divided in smaller groups and will depart at intervals in order to avoid congestion along the route. At the end we gather at where coffee is available. \nUnfortunately\, we can’t avoid some costs as we are required to have permissions and insurances. Early bird registration starts at $10. \nEvent Details\nPreliminary notice – More details to be provided including date\, location and route of this event. \nWe are interested to hear if there are Dutchies here in Brisbane who are willing to assist in organising this event. If you would like to be involved please send an email to dutchlinkbrisbane@dccq.org.

SUMMARY:Archerfield Airport History: Presentations & Tour
DESCRIPTION:Invitation to WWII presentations and tour of the Archerfield Airport Heritage Room \nOrganised by Dutchlink Brisbane on 16 September from 2pm till 4pm \nArcherfield Airport has recently opened a Heritage Room in their historic Art Nouveau Arrival Hall. It provides a great pictorial overview of its rich history. \nArcherfield Aerodrome was Brisbane’s commercial airport from 1931 until 1949. It is linked to a number of historic flights by aviation pioneers such as Charles Kingsford Smith and Lores Bonney. During World War II\, it became a major airbase for the famous US Sixth Army\, staged at Camp Columbia (Wacol) which operated under General MacArthur. Archerfield also operated and repaired aircraft from the RAAF\, the Royal Navy and units of the Netherlands East Indies forces. \nThe Dutch relation with Archerfield started soon after the opening of the airport in 1931 when mail and passenger flights started to operate. There was enormous enthusiasm from the people of Brisbane when in 1934 the Dutch airplane De Uiver landed here after the London to Melbourne air race. \nThe Netherlands East Indies (NEI) – now Indonesia – was invaded by the Japanese in 1942. Brisbane consequently became the home of the NEI Government-in-Exile. Archerfield became the major airport for the Dutch war effort. It provided employment for hundreds of Dutchies and Brisbanites alike\, allowing many Dutch-Australian friendship and businesses contacts to be developed. The picture made at the farewell of the Dutch Transport Squadron in 1947 shows this deep relationship. \nThe American\, Australian\, British and Dutch WWII history of the aerodrome has largely been forgotten. With the opening of the Heritage Room\, the airport is ensuring that this will not happen. Please join us for presentations and a tour along the exhibits. \n\nPeter Dunn OAM will provide an overview of the WWII history of the airport.\nPaul Budde from the Dutch Australian Cultural Centre will present its Dutch history.\n\nThe number of people in the Heritage Room  is strictly limited to 30\, so please book early. \nWe kindly ask you to provide a donation for Dutchlink Brisbane\, the organiser of the event\, all tickets $15 (+ small Eventbrite charge). \nClick here to secure your ticket. \n

SUMMARY:Business Networking Borrel
DESCRIPTION:About this event\nThe DCCQ aims to build connections between organisations and people based in both the Netherlands and Queensland. As good Dutch practice dictates\, what better way is there to get to know each other over a ‘borrel’? \nEvery first Thursday of the month\, members and any interested parties gather for an evening of networking. They discover how they can help each other find and develop new opportunities\, all the while building connections between Queensland and the Netherlands. \nIf would like to add value to this network\, or if you simply want to connect with an interesting group of people\, please join us at the Bavarian. We’ll even throw in some free Pretzels! \nHope to see you there! \nPricing\nDCCQ Members            Free\nNon-DCCQ members     Free
