The Dutch are well known across the globe for a long list of things, and fanatic cycling sits near the top of it. With Brisbane City Council building an excellent network of bike paths across the city, it was no surprise that the Dutch were among the first to jump on their bikes and use it for commuting, shopping and fun.
On Sunday 21 November the Chamber ran a recreational bike tour along the river and through the city to promote that network. The ride was led by the Honorary Consul of the Netherlands, Marjon Wind, and DCCQ President Ralph Vossenberg, covering about 10km in roughly 45 minutes, with a social gathering afterwards.
Riders were encouraged to turn up on an orange bike, in an orange outfit, or both — and prizes went to the most remarkable bike and the most sensational outfit. The result was exactly the colourful spectacle we were hoping for.
