Oliebollen Take Centre Stage at Dutch Culinary Workshop

Chef Ron den Hartog took a full house at The Dutch Club from batter to bite — flour-dusted aprons, golden results, and a take-home recipe.

On Saturday 26 July, the Dutch Chamber of Commerce Queensland, in collaboration with The Dutch Club and other Dutch community organisations, hosted a hands-on cultural experience that brought a delicious Dutch tradition to life: making oliebollen—those iconic, golden, fruit-filled treats that have long been a festive staple in the Netherlands.

Held at The Dutch Club in Richlands, the event was a resounding success, attracting a strong turnout of Dutch expats, families, and local enthusiasts eager to learn (and taste!) the art of oliebollen-making. Guided by professional chef Ron den Hartog, attendees were taken through the process from batter to bite, with plenty of laughs, flour-dusted aprons, and golden results along the way.

The workshop was equal parts cultural celebration and culinary education. Chef Ron’s expert guidance ensured everyone—from first-timers to seasoned cooks—walked away with new skills, full stomachs, and a take-home recipe to impress friends and family. The event’s warm atmosphere was further enhanced by great company, a well-stocked Dutch shop, and a cash bar to toast our crispy creations.

This lively and flavour-filled afternoon once again demonstrated the Dutch Chamber’s commitment to delivering authentic and engaging cultural experiences for our community. The positive feedback, full seats, and happy faces told the story: oliebollen may have just converted a few die-hard donut fans.
