The Energy Market in the next 50 years. What will it look like?

Today’s world is all about choices. Is installing solar panels on our roof worth it? Will my next car run on petrol, or will I invest in an electrical vehicle? How long will an electric car battery last? How will the energy prices evolve? And what does this mean for my carbon footprint? These are important questions to be asked when considering the underlying scenarios.

Envision the scenarios for an energy company, where investments are valued in billions and decisions require lengthy research and investigation processes. With climate change as no doubt one of the biggest challenges that we face as society. And the rapidly changing energy landscape due to developing technologies in shale, solar, wind, biofuels, hydrogen, batteries, and more. There are many variables to contemplate, and many questions to be asked.

Edwin Kunkels has worked for Shell since 2002 and is passionate about the energy transition. In his current role as Chief Financial Officer of Arrow Energy, he deals with these questions on a daily basis. The changing energy mix means significant implications for investments, infrastructure, regulations, markets, and the way energy is delivered to the consumer.

Through an interactive dialogue, Edwin will explain insights into the current and future possible energy mix across a multitude of scenarios. He will outline the challenges in energy transition and will discuss how energy affordability, energy security, and climate change all form part of that conversation.

Edwin will take us on a journey through the world of energy, now and in the future. He will provide us with valuable insights around the impact it will have on our world, and our lives.

Edwin Kunkels
Chief Financial Officer, Arrow Energy

Edwin started his career in 1994 at PWC, working in Audit and Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) transaction support for international clients like Shell and DuPont.

He joined Shell in 2002 and had roles such as Private Equity Manager, Investment Finance Manager Exploration (new ventures in Algeria, Kazakhstan and Ukraine), Upstream Commercial Finance Manager (NBD Middle East in Dubai), Regional Controller (projects in Qatar such as Pearl GTL and Qatargas 4 LNG), and Head of M&A and Commercial Finance (East in Singapore).

Edwin holds a Master Degree in Financial Economics from the Erasmus University of Rotterdam and is a Dutch Chartered Accountant.
