Solar panels or not? Petrol or electric for the next car? How long does an electric car battery really last, where are energy prices heading, and what does any of it mean for a household carbon footprint? Ordinary questions — and the same questions an energy company has to answer when the investments run to billions and the decisions rest on years of research.
On 16 September, Edwin Kunkels, Chief Financial Officer of Arrow Energy, took members through them. Edwin has worked for Shell since 2002 and deals with the energy transition daily, in a landscape being reshaped by shale, solar, wind, biofuels, hydrogen and batteries.
Through an interactive dialogue he set out the current and possible future energy mix across a range of scenarios, and the implications for investment, infrastructure, regulation, markets and the way energy reaches the consumer — with energy affordability, energy security and climate change all part of the same conversation.
The evening was opened by Ralph Vossenberg and closed with a Q&A and networking.
